Satiety: Satiety refers to the feeling of satisfaction or “fullness” produced by the consumption of food.

 

Saturated fats: Dietary fat that is solid at room temperature; a neutral fat found in palm and coconut oil, animal meats and butter.

 

Selenium: An essential trace mineral. Selenium is also essential for healthy immune functioning.

 

Sodium: A mineral, an essential nutrient. It helps to maintain blood volume, regulate the balance of water in the cells, and keep nerves functioning.

 

Statins: Drugs that are used to lower total and LDL cholesterol; Lipitor, Mevacorm Pravachol and Zocor.

 

Sucrose: Table sugar; glucose and fructose combined.

 

Sugar alcohols:  Sweeteners such as manitol and sorbitol that have some impact on blood sugar in most people.

 

Systolic pressure: Blood pressure when the heart contracts and pumps the blood; the first, higher number in the reading. e.g. 120/80
